The channel is led by Sudip Bhai Subedi and is known for its bold storytelling, awareness-driven content, and critical take on social and political issues.
The issue centers around a design titled “केरा गणतन्त्र” (Banana Republic), launched under their new clothing line, IDS Wears. Many fans viewed the design as a satirical take on Nepal’s political system. It quickly gained attention and praise online.
However, the government ordered In Depth Story to stop its promotion and sale. Officials claimed that the design could harm national peace, sovereignty, geographic integrity, and unity.
Official Response from the Channel
In Depth Story responded through an Instagram post:
“We are grateful for the love, support, and trust you’ve shown towards In Depth Story and IDS Wears. However, the government, through the Cyber Bureau, has ordered us to suspend the promotion and sale of our ‘Banana Republic’ design, citing concerns about national security and unity. We tried to explain the historical and symbolic meaning of the term, but it seems it was either misunderstood or deliberately ignored.”
Due to this, the team has decided to temporarily suspend all merchandise orders under IDS Wears. Orders already placed will still be delivered this week.
Despite the pressure, the team has stood firm. They stressed their ongoing commitment to freedom of speech, creativity, and independent thought. In their words, “Your continued support makes us stronger.”
This is not the first time In Depth Story has faced such issues. In the past, Sudip Bhai Subedi was also questioned for his content, which often challenges political norms and points out flaws in the system.
