Nepal’s hip-hop scene has once again found itself in controversy after rapper Brisky Timos dropped a scathing diss track titled “Sisa Bottle”, targeting well-known filmmaker and media personality Sisan Baniya and stand-up comedian Sajan Shrestha. The track follows an ongoing debate over the legacy of late rap icon Yama Buddha and who gets to invoke his name in public discourse.
The controversy ignited when rapper Lay Zy took to social media, indirectly criticizing Sisan Baniya for casually referencing Yama Buddha amid rising industry tensions. His statement, delivered in Nepali slang, implied that people who were not a part of the original NepHop movement should refrain from using Yama’s name as a prop, especially during moments of conflict and “beef.”
“Someone tell this bro Yama ko naam yesari ja paye tehi na lida ramro hola… Nephop ma nabhako manche haru na ufrida ramro hola,” Lay Zy wrote.
Sisan Claps Back
Sisan Baniya, known for his visual storytelling and long-standing involvement in Nepal’s media industry, defended his relationship with Yama Buddha. He cited his direct involvement in Yama’s early days, especially during the making of the “Sathi” music video—widely regarded as one of the pivotal moments in Yama’s rise.
“That song made him BIG,” Sisan stated, adding that he and his team, including Ian Clement, helped bring Raw Barz to life behind the scenes.
He also touched upon his broader contributions over 17 years in the industry, expressing both pride and frustration about the erasure of non-rapping contributors in the cultural narrative.
Enter Brisky The Diss Drops
Rapper Brisky Timos then entered the fray, dropping “Sisa Bottle,” a direct diss aimed at both Sisan Baniya and Sajan Shrestha. The track, filled with sharp bars and confrontational tone, mocked the comedians’ involvement in the hip-hop space, further deepening the divide between artists and entertainers in the scene.
Sajan Shrestha Responds
Sajan Shrestha initially posted a sarcastic jab on Facebook:
“Duniya natak garerko ta last ma diss song po nikalna raicha… Aba euta duita show paula ki UK tira, advance ma congrats hai.”
Brisky fired back in the comment section with a cutting remark:
“Taile stage akha le dekhnu agadi bata show gardai hideko ho… I’ll fcking make you depressed like you were hundred times worse you lil internet warrior.”
Cooling the Fire Sajan Calls for Respect
However, Sajan later attempted to de-escalate the conflict with a mature and heartfelt follow-up:
“I respect all the rappers. The only thing that triggered me was when Brisk used the words ‘jokers and comedians.’ It felt like we were being treated as some sort of joke.”
He further added:
“We’re part of the same community, going through the same struggles. I don’t want any beef. I only share love.”
In a separate post, Sajan acknowledged Lay Zy’s role in the industry:
“I respect Lay Zy dai hai, he has contributed a lot for the scene—whatever he says, I take it by heart.”
